The rally car is my new Toyota MR2 I have spent the last 18 months building it in my garage at home with the help of a few of my customers and friends (mainly Holden motors of Rochdale and p.l vehicles of Oldham) the car is a standard mr2 non turbo used for stage rallying around the northwest.
The car had its first outing at Weeton barracks near Blackpool on March 28 on the "legends fires smc stages" as this was the first event for the car it was decided to take things easy and see how the car handled and performed early signs were very good though braking was the weak link so minor adjustments helped through the day.
On stage 3 we suffered a minor electrical problem causing the fuel injection fuse to blow but was quickly sorted but dropped us pretty much to the back of the field. Sadly we had a problem at the end of stage 7 when we crossed the finish line at about 80 mph to find the stop line alot closer than expected so had to avoid a big accident by going off the road and hit the only thing we could possible hit (a metal post ) that we uprooted this damaged the radiator putting us out for the day.
I started rallying in a mk2 ford escort as a co driver for a friend of my ex wifes but due to motion sickness problems decided driving would be better for me, my first rally car was a semi works mini cooper bought from one of my customers( west pennine motorsport) 6 years ago this was a great car but to small for me, i
I sold the mini to buy my peugeout 205 gti on ebay which i ran for about 3 years unfortunately this proved to be a pretty unreliable car and i lost faith in it, so that was sold and project mr2 took over my life and my garage, customers were always asking for the latest updates on the progress of the car and when i would be out in it .
My co driver is Simon Robertshaw a violinist for the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra here in Manchester who I met through my wife Elena who tollerates my passion and is always there to support me and take the pics
